Objectives
This session will discuss the ecosystem and infrastructure needed to support the digitalisation of EU capital markets and the policy measures that may be required to enable the transition from the current legacy environment.The first part of the discussion will focus on the vision and key characteristics of the future digital capital markets ecosystem. Speakers will consider the foundational technologies and components needed to implement it, the evolving roles of ecosystem participants, and the potential benefits, downsides and risks associated with the shift from legacy systems.The second part will examine the policy measures needed to support the implementation of this digital ecosystem in the EU. It will address the adequacy of the current regulatory and policy frameworks in this respect, the potential need for further initiatives or coordination, and the respective contributions of public authorities and market-driven actions.
