Objectives
This session aims to wrap up the discussions on the next steps for the Savings and Investment Union (SIU) held throughout the Warsaw seminar. It will take a step back to reflect on the objectives of the SIU, the key dynamics and drivers needed to shape the future of the SIU and assess whether they are adequately addressed in the European Commission’s SIU Strategy and Competitiveness Compass. In the first round, the panel will assess the objectives set for SIU, how progress on SIU may be measured and identify the remaining issues and challenges to be addressed in the future steps of SIU. The second round will examine the main drivers for the development of capital markets in the EU and whether they are adequately addressed in the SIU Strategy set out by the Commission.
Points of discussion
- SIU objectives and challenges to address: Does the SIU provide a clear vision of what we want to achieve in terms of the role and structure of capital markets in Europe? What would success on SIU look like and what are the key metrics to assess success in 5-10 years from now? Does the SIU strategy adequately identify the main issues still to be addressed and the obstacles to be overcome?
- SIU key drivers and priorities: Does the SIU Strategy proposed by the Commission emphasise the right drivers for the development of capital markets in Europe? What should be the priorities for the development of capital markets in Europe? Are any issues or aspects insufficiently emphasised?
