Objectives
This session will examine how to strengthen the competitiveness of EU capital markets so they can better support innovation and growth in the European economy. Panellists will first assess the current state of competitiveness of EU capital markets, comparing them with other jurisdictions, identifying key drivers and gaps, and considering what a truly competitive EU capital market should look like and what level of competitiveness is realistically achievable in the next five years. The discussion will then turn to policy priorities, evaluating the impact of existing CMU and SIU measures, the potential of new initiatives such as consolidated tapes, listing reforms, and savings mobilisation, and whether additional steps are needed. Panellists will also reflect on how industry-driven initiatives and best practices can be scaled up to enhance market attractiveness, deepen integration, and improve access to capital for innovative and high-growth companies
