Session overview

Objectives

By bringing together EU‑level policymakers, national authorities and industry practitioners in September, this session seeks to move the debate “from policy into action”: it aims not only to describe the new framework, but to identify concrete steps that can make AML supervision more consistent, risk‑sensitive and technologically responsive across the Union.

In particular the objectives of the round table are to:

Clarify the new EU AML architecture and AMLA’s role.
Provide a shared understanding of the integrated EU AML framework and AMLA’s mandate, focusing on how supervisory convergence and the “single AML system” will work in practice for public authorities and the financial sector.

Explore risk‑based supervision and technology‑enabled oversight.
Discuss how supervisors and obliged entities will implement risk‑based supervision, including approaches to risk assessment and prioritisation, and the use of data analytics and AI tools while ensuring robust governance, explainability and proportionality.

Address supervisory challenges at key interfaces.
Examine practical supervisory and compliance issues at crypto‑fiat, human‑AI and cross‑border interfaces, sharing emerging good practices and highlighting areas where further guidance or coordination is needed to make AML supervision more effective across the Union.

Points of discussion

  1. What are the main features of the new EU AML architecture and AMLA’s role?

  2. How will supervisors and obliged entities implement risk‑based supervision, including approaches to risk assessment and prioritisation, and use data analytics and AI tools?

  3. What are the practical supervisory and compliance issues at crypto‑fiat, human‑AI and cross‑border interfaces?
